When you are finished with the construction of your dream home, the next step would be to furnish and design the interior to suit your preferences and lifestyle. We are going to be looking at the bathroom, essentially the vanity, which is the most decorative furniture within the area. The bathroom vanities are those furniture pieces that consist of your sink, cupboards to store toiletries and the mirror. Most persons try to find a vanity that will match with their bathroom design, but the truth is that the contemporary ones are pretty much “one design fit all” because they group well with any decor.

Try not to get a bathroom vanity that is too big and will clutter the room, it is best to get something that will fit well and still provide that elegant look. Contemporary pieces generally have moderate sizes that range for bathrooms in a small town house to a condo.

Contemporary vanities could be differentiated basically into three kinds. Firstly the rolling type of cabinets. This could provide you with sufficient amount of storage space and simultaneously occupies the least amount of space too. It is common to position this type of rolling cabinets just beneath the sink or towards the side. The amount of space allotted for keeping your bathroom utilities is sufficient enough.

The second type of contemporary vanity cabinets are those that are equipped to be hanged on the wall. These are more space efficient than others because the floor area is still available to put other items if necessary. You can keep your first aid medicines along with the other toiletries in the shelves as they provide storage space inside as well as underneath. The size ranges from about eighteen square inches to twenty for the cabinet. And the fact is that you could actually place two of these types of vanity cabinets within a reasonably sized bathroom, if more storage space is needed. These types of contemporary vanity cabinets are mostly found in the recent modern houses. If you choose to go with two, ensure that their ample spacing to avoid overcrowding.

The third type of contemporary vanity cabinet is the conventional standing type which possesses robust double door or single door cabinet right beneath the sink. It occupies whole heap of space if it is of double door type. It is suitable for bigger bathrooms. It provides you adequate space for keeping all your bathroom utilities inside it. It is vital you do avoid more furniture along with the double door cabinet which would give an exaggerated appearance to look crowded. Single door type along with drawers would be the right choice of smaller bathrooms comparatively.

Contemporary bathroom vanities are suitable and beneficial for all kinds of houses. It fits in both modern houses as well as the usual conventionally designed homes. They do reduce the storage space occupying the overall bathroom area and yields an enhanced outlook of your bathroom with much free space.

If, having seen antique bathroom vanities in your best friend’s house, you are suddenly obsessed by the idea of owning one and redoing you bathroom in the Victorian style, you have to be aware of some facts of life.

If you forgot to ask your friend where she got the antique bathroom vanity you should know that generally, when people talk “antique” they are referring to something that is a reproduction of an antique style. Real antique furniture cost considerably more than reproductions and it is mostly fabulously rich people who purchase them. The reason these people purchase antiques is due to the fact that they represent historical value and therefore impart to their owner a certain standing. It is a sign of social bearing to own antiques, not necessarily to use them.

So don’t go rushing off to an antique shop to look for something like what your best friend has. If (hopefully not) you succeed in buying an authentic item, on top of the fabulous price that you will have paid for it, expect to spend even more for repairing it and making it as functional as today’s bathroom vanities.

To look for antique bathroom vanities that you can use right away, you should go no further than the store where you got your last vanity sink. These outlets have access to suppliers of antique bathroom furnishings, may even have the stock with them. Alternatively, you can browse the internet and examine the many antique bathroom vanities that are featured in catalogs of companies that specialize in bathroom furnishings.

With antique reproductions you can have all the beauty and nostalgia of real antiques with the sturdiness and functionality of modern vanities. You will not have to worry about having them repaired and can use them immediately. Even more than that, because antique reproductions are made with special care, these reproductions may even be sturdier and more functional than modern style bathroom vanities. You will really be getting twice double for your money.

There are many antique styles that can be incorporated into a bath room. You can draw from 17th, 18th and even 19 the century styles. Each of them will have a different ambience from the others. In this regard, you need to research on the furniture styles of those eras first before placing your order on the internet.

As always, when purchasing costly equipment from the internet, transactions may be initiated there but you are better off picking up the item at the real store, if it is convenient for you to do so. This eliminates the chance of your getting something defective, or even the wrong item.

Actually it is a good idea to remodel your bedroom in the antique style if you like lush settings. You will have the opportunity to put curtains on the windows and drapes around the bath tub. The finely designed acrylic rugs that you stored in the attic can finally find a resting place on the floor of your bathroom.

When we shop for mirrors, the first thing that catches our attention is the way the mirror was framed. Then we look at the color and texture of the material that was used for the frame. On rare occasions, people complain about the way the mirror itself was made. That is very ironical, unless the mirror itself was not made to be used but as decor for the hallway or the living room.

A bathroom mirror cabinet should, besides being decorative, also extremely functional. And since the main function of cabinets is for storage, you should look for mirror cabinets that offer plenty of that. This is not to say that you should purchase a large cabinet immediately in anticipation of every item that you may need to put in it in the future.

There are modular mirror cabinets that you can keep adding to depending on your requirements. That means endless storage capacity that you can avail of as you need to. By means of subtly built in attachments, you may add to the first unit a second one wither vertically or horizontally, and so on.

The material used for the mirror cabinet needs to be rust-free. For this purpose, manufacturers usually use anodized aluminum for making their bathroom cabinets.

The way in which the cabinet closes itself is something that should be carefully considered. If you are not going to store any items in the cabinet that may be harmful to the other people living in the house then you can just settle for being able to close the cabinet. Otherwise, you should get a cabinet that can be locked and only give a copy of the key to selected individuals. This should be the case if you use the cabinet to keep your medicines in and the kids in the house have access to the bathroom.

Next, you have to see to it that the doors are properly lined with air proof materials. This will prevent small insects from crawling in and possible messing around with its contents. This can also prevent the harsh sound of metal coming in contact with metal. Opening and closing the cabinet will not disturb other people in the bedroom.

You should also look for a mirror in the inner surface of the door as well as on its outer side. A mirror should also be located at the back of the cabinet. This serves to illuminate the cabinet from inside so that you can more easily identify things that you have placed behind other items.

Next, check that the door opens wide enough for you not to be bothered by it when going through the things in the cabinet. An angle of 170 degrees will be sufficient.

Then you have to check if the shelves are deep enough and tall enough to accommodate the stuff that you will be putting into the cabinet. In this regard, you should bring with you the tales object that you had in your previous cabinet and try to fit it in the new cabinet.

If the mirror cabinet passes all your scrutiny, you should be making a good investment by buying it. Still, donÕt forget to ask about warranties.

There is no more prominent or attractive feature in your bathroom than the vanity cabinets. When people look into a bathroom the first thing they identify is the sink and if the sink is a vanity sink, they at once build up an image of the bathroom depending on how the vanity sink looks like.

Needless to say if your vanity sink is no longer vain, it won’t make a very pleasant impression on people peering into your bathroom. Along with its drabness, the rest of the bathroom may seem old, molded and dirty. This affects not only visitors but even people who are used to seeing shabby vanity table. And they are seldom, if ever, inspired or stimulated by it. That is why maintaining your vanity cabinets is something you should never overlook.

Even if you are not, right now, planning to remodel your bathroom and vanity cabinet, it is always good to look into the possibilities open for you once in a while. If you can’t regularly pay visits to your bathroom supplies store, then pay those visits to websites that deal in this type or merchandise on the internet.

All styles will find representative images in their catalogs.

There will be a profusion of classic vanities with finely embossed or engraved details. These tables are usually made of wood and are normally stand-alone (have four legs planted on the floor). They may or may not have shelves and drawers depending on how wide they are. Wide cabinets can have shelves and drawers on the sides for storing towels, soaps and napkins. The widest ones will usually have two vanity sinks built in.

Occasionally you will find cabinets that are supported on the wall. However, these may not be very good for supporting themselves or the sink because both the cabinets and the sinks will be supported by the wall itself. If people push down too hard on either cabinet of sink, they may damage the wall and dislodge the furnishings.

Then you have the console vanities which are tables just big enough to house a sink. Some consoles are designed with a mirror attached to them. The sink is built into the table itself. The console may have wooden panels or may be just a framework of shiny metal. Occasionally, the vanity top is continuous with the sink itself.

There are also narrower console vanities that are used to put vessel sinks in. Vessel sinks typically feature low stands and are simply placed atop the narrow console, which at this point begins to resemble a pedestal.

However, the pedestal sink is totally another type of vanity. In this setting the bowl of the sink is just within the top of the pedestal. The pedestal may be shaped like a tree trunk or a tall flower vase. It may resemble a Greek column and have classical embellishments.

With that rich variety of bathroom vanities, keeping your bathroom always attractive, clean and healthy should not be an unpleasant thing to do. And if you choose durable materials, you may even have to remodel your bathroom less often.

More than ever, you have a wider variety of designs, colors and materials in which sinks for the bathroom are made. Besides the traditional porcelain finish, they are making sinks in fiberglass, plastic, tempered glass, aluminum and other exotic materials, like bamboo and hard wood.

Whatever the materials they are made of, there remain some basic types of sinks that you should know about if you are planning on refurbishing your bathroom.

Many people have standard wall-sinks in their homes. These furnishings are the bare necessities of what you need to wash your face. It is made up of just the water bowl and the plumbing. The sink itself may be porcelain-coated or aluminum. The plumbing shows with wall-sinks.

Wall sinks are not advisable because, since the only support for the sink is the wall itself, it tends to pull away from the wall. This can have either one or both of two results. The sink may eventually drop to the floor or it damages the wall / or both. Most people prefer to support a wall sink on a counter top. In such cases the sink is either built into a support framework as in console vanities, placed on top of a vanity table (vessel sinks) or inserted into the vanity table (drop-in). In all three cases, additional support is furnished by the vanity table itself.

Other sinks may be built under the vanity table or counter. In this case, the table also supports the sink from falling, not directly, but because it prevents people from pressing on the sink when they use it.

Another type of sink is supported by a stand and this kind is called a pedestal sink. Depending on the arrangement of the plumbing, some pedestal sinks drain directly down into the ground while some have the ordinary drainage set-up. The stand itself may be shaped into many fancy designs. You will see pedestal sinks that are supported by a stand shaped like a huge goblet. Some stands resemble classic Greek pillars. Other stands are plain and rounded or polygonal in shape. On many pedestal sinks, you may find attachments to place toiletry item on.

Pedestal vanities are especially appropriate for smaller bathrooms. In such cases they are installed in one cornet, usually diagonally across the busiest corner of the bathroom. This arrangement clears the area in between and make it easier to negotiate the bathroom. Such pedestal sinks may be shaped like a quarter of a squash. The pointed side is placed towards the corner and the fanned out side can have a cabinet built under it.

The bowl of the sink may be shaped in a circle, an oval or some other irregular shape. The rim of the bowl may be one sided and scalloped as is the case with shell-shaped bowls. Bowls may also have a square or rectangular outline with the corners and sides molded upwards.

There are also flat sinks made of metal or glass which are slanted towards the side of the drainage plumbing. If the plumbing is far enough to the back, it can be concealed by a wall so that the sink looks as if it were draining into the wall.

You should find re-doing your bathroom a lot of fun, not necessarily a lot of expense.

Double bathroom vanities make it possible for two people to perform their priming rituals at the same time. This benefit results in so many other good results. For one, there will be less chance that students won’t make it to school on time, the same goes for employees who need to go to work. Double bathroom vanities will also ease out the early morning competition for the sink that is normal in homes where there are fewer bathrooms than there are people.

It will even be possible, given that only two persons will occupy a room and use the corresponding bathroom, to assign a separate wash area to each person. In terms of hygiene, this is a very desirable result of having two vanities in the bathroom. Each one keeps his/her toiletry items on his/her side of the vanity counter. Each one uses his/her own sink to brush the teeth or wash the face and the hands. This minimizes the exchange of microbes between them. It also makes it easier to access the toiletries whenever there is some need to rush through the rituals of the bathroom.

Having two bathroom vanities is very convenient in case the faucet of one vanity goes out of order or for some reason of another is unavailable. There will be no need to go to another bathroom since the faucet in the other vanity will usually be available. This is especially true if the other faucet is leaking water and needs to be fixed.

Sometimes, people will take the opportunity while bathing to wash light clothing. Having two vanities in the bathroom will allow you to soak the remaining pieces of clothing in one vanity while you wash the first one in the other vanity, and so on down the line until all of them are done.

Accessibility is also another advantage you can have with double bathroom vanity sinks. For instance, I you happen to be in the shower and need to reach out to get something from the vanity table, so long as you placed what you need to get on the side of the table near the shower, it will be easy to get. In other words, you can arrange your toilet accessories in such a way that the items you need for taking a bath or a shower are closer to that portion of the bathroom.

One prerequisite for doubles is that your bathroom is large enough so that having the double vanities around won’t make getting around difficult and risky. This should be taken seriously into consideration if old, debilitated or handicapped people will be using the bathroom. This is not only a matter of size, but also involves the way that the long vanity is located. You probably have to devote some serious time to planning where you will place the double vanity. Think about what people do often in bathrooms, about areas in the bathroom that are frequently passed or used. Then plan to place the long vanity table outside the perimeter of those areas. This will also give you a hint as to the maximum length to which you can, in all practicality, have your vanity made.

For so long as your bathroom is large enough to place a double vanity into it without danger of overcrowding the bathroom, you will find having such an arrangement very convenient and time-saving.

What you should look for in bathroom sink cabinets will really depend on how your bathroom is fitted out to look and what you might want to store in it.

Because a bathroom sink cabinet will be a prominent furnishing in the bathroom, its colors and the style in which it was constructed should, at least, not clash with the rest of the way the bathroom is painted and laid out. Although aesthetic harmony is essentially a matter of taste, some things, like sticking a Victorian style sink into a bathroom with a modern setting, will obviously not be right. And concerning the color: just be sure that if you intend to put a mint-green cabinet in a bathroom with a peach motif, you can justify it by using other colors, too.

Available space is also a prime consideration in choosing bathroom sink cabinets. It will not make sense aesthetically and practically to install a wide cabinet in a small or medium-sized bathroom, even if you will be needing a lot of storage because you buy bathroom supplies several months ahead. For smaller bathrooms, it is better to install shelves on the walls. This leaves the floor area free and won’t cramp up the room.

As a matter of fact for small bathrooms, an equally slim sin cabinet will be the only things appropriate. And these cabinets should be shaped like an open fan, having one side with a 90 degree angle and the opposite side forming an arch. This is because sinks and sink cabinets for smaller bathrooms should be installed in a corner. This frees up the space that cabinets aligned to the wall will eat up.

To even enhance the illusions of spaciousness, you could simply install shelves or trays without walls under the corner sink. You could have these custom-made but you will also find such ensembles in many bathroom furnishing stores in the real world or on the internet. If you simply must have walled shelves, think about using glass walls and shelves.

Fiberglass is a very durable material. People sit on fiberglass chairs and eat on fiberglass tables. An additional benefit you get from sink cabinets completely made of glass is that it is non reactive to water, it wont rot and you won’t ever have to worry about molds and mildew getting on your towels and napkins. Remember this is a perennial problem with wooden cabinets. And the soft luster of glass will give an extra feeling of cleanliness. It is easier to clean than wood and does not need too much maintenance.

The way the compartments are built into the sink cabinet is another consideration. For wide cabinets in big bathrooms, look maybe one horizontal division just under the plumbing. On the sides of the cabinet, there should horizontal shelves and vertical compartments as well as a drawer on top. The way the side shelves are divided into compartments should allow the things you store in the sink cabinet to fit in comfortably.

With a sharp cutting knife, some firm glue and an appropriate screw driver, you can easily replace your bathroom vanity top if it is not made of real marble or similar materials that cant be screwed on. Of course, you need to have an extra hand to carry the vanity top, especially if it is large.

In this regard, before you have a new vanity top installed, take the time to trace out the shape of the hole in the vanity top as well as to determine its location. In this way, when you have to buy a replacement you have all the measurements you need without having to dismantle the sink.

The first thing to do is to look for a replacement for your vanity top. It is very important to get a replacement that features a hole for the sink in the same place and with the same shape and dimensions as the one you are replacing. For this purpose, use the measurements you took before installing the old vanity top. If you need to, buy appropriate splashes for the sides.

After turning the water off, if your sink is a drop-in, you need to dismantle it first. With your cutting knife slice through the glue (caulk) which holds the top (and splashes) against the wall. Do the same thing for the glue underneath the top. Then unscrew the top from its supporting frame.

Remove the old top. Place it aside. Apply glue to the frame supporting the vanity top as well as to the back side of the top. Then position the new vanity top on the table. If the new top is not level, insert a shim(s) under the portion where it is lower than horizontal. Ask your assistant to lift the top a little while you are inserting the shim. When you are sure that the top is properly positioned, use your screw driver to fasten in to the frame. If you have a drop in sink, install in back into its place. Glue splashes against walls adjoining the vanity top.

Those are the basic steps for replacing your bathroom vanity top. Today there are many different ways in which vanity tops are assembled and sold. Some of them will have holes for the sink while others will have the sink built it. Some vanity tops are heavy enough to just prop on its supporting framework.

Others, as in the example above, need to be held in place with screws. In short, you may have to follow a different set of steps for replacing different vanity tops. The best way to get around this is to get DIY instructions for top replacements from the people you are purchasing them from.

It might be advisable to request for a replacement demo from the vendor of the table top before purchasing it. Also, you should remember to ask for a manual guide for replacing them. These should be included in the package for the better brands of bathroom vanity tops.

The trend in bathroom decor is veering away from regarding the bathroom as being just a place where we clean ourselves up. The status of the bathroom is catching up with that of the other rooms in the house where we spend time to relax and enjoy ourselves. More and more people think of the bathroom as a lounging room where you can stay and listen to music or watch television while drinking fruit juice or punch.

If you are thinking about decor that will make you bathroom a nice place to stay, you shouldn’t have much difficulty looking for the right items. An hour or two of looking up bathroom furniture catalogs on the internet will give you more than enough ideas for beautifying your bathroom.

Vanity furniture, in particular, has come a long way since the days of white porcelain on brown tabletop. Although they still make vanities along the lines of traditional design, the variations in the lines, textures and colors of the latest bathroom furniture offer many possibilities in a wide variety of motifs for the person who is particular about the appearance of his bathroom.

Special mention has to be made about the innovativeness with which modern sinks are made. Today, you can find stunning pedestal sinks featuring bowls with irregularly shaped rims. Some bowls are simply rectangular shapes that have been molded concavely; others resemble sea shells with scallop patterns. There are bowls made of tempered glass that are brightly painted with hundreds of floral colors.

Some glass sinks even resemble porcelain in the way they are opaquely colored. The only difference being that glass sinks can be colored in an infinite variety of shades. They can be mottled with spots of color; they can even have geometric patterns painted on them, or flowers. There are glass sinks that are painted with a multicolored world map.

Even the plumbing, which is probably the one big problem people has to address when doing their bathrooms up, can now be made to look elegant. They use colorful and slender pipes that go straight down into the ground and look no more harmful that stands. You can also find slanted flat sinks draining into the wall or into plumbing that is located behind the wall. This is a good model to consider if you don’t like to see plumbing or any suggestion of it in your bathroom.

Vanity cabinets and tables have also been replaced with simple metallic frameworks on which the sink and accessory trays are supported. The mirror is often seen attached to the stand itself. The look of these state-of-the-art console sinks is one of great economy and such models are superb for small bathrooms.

If your bathroom is not a pleasant place to visit or stay in, you are falling behind the trend in health and aesthetics. People are beginning to fix up their bathrooms as they deserve to be. After all, our most basic functions are performed there. You should be thinking now of redoing your bathroom to reflect your personality. This is one good way of boosting your own morale and self-image. And it doesn’t cost all that much to have it done. They are available in new materials which are cheaper than the wood and metal traditionally used.

If your bathroom isn’t really all that small but manages to look overcrowded, you may have chosen bad places to fix your furnishings into. Generally, medium- to small-sized bathrooms should have all their furnishings fitted well into the corners. This is especially true of bathroom vanities.

Pedestal and console type bathroom vanities are available as corner models. The characteristics of corner models are two-fold. Their back should be like two sides of a square. This is made to fit into the corner of the bathroom. The front will usually be oval to accommodate the sink comfortably with some space on both sides of the sink to place accessories on.

To make the room look even more spacious, you shouldn’t frame the sink on a table that goes all the way down to the floor. The framework should just cover the plumbing halfway down. Then, you could have small cabinets or shelves built into the wall just above the vanity. This is where your soap, your tissue paper and your tooth brushes go.

Alternatively, you might consider looking for a corner console vanity without panels. This type of bathroom sink is supported on a framework of metal without any walls. The empty space between the frames gives a spacious look to the area under the sink. Of course, in this arrangement, the plumbing is visible. This will not be unsightly if you select plumbing made of the same materials as the metal frame. In this way, the plumbing will look complementary with the frame of the vanity and you can clean all of them regularly to keep them looking new. Obviously you will have to make sure that the metal itself is tarnish-proof.

A mirror above the corner sink will enhance the spacious look of the bathroom. The only difficulty will be how to place a mirror there. You can get around this by looking for a vanity console or pedestal with a mirror attached to it. You can always have this custom-made for you in case you can’t find any model with this feature. Or you might also attach the mirror to the door of a cabinet directly above the vanity.

Still another way to make your bathroom look more spacious with a corner vanity is to get glass instead of porcelain sinks. The light reflected from the glass makes the room brighter, enhancing the illusion of spaciousness. There are models of glass sinks that drain into the wall. Well, they don’t really drain into the wall, but the plumbing is located behind the wall. Tempered glass is normally used for these models so you won’t have to worry that it will break easily.

Because designing a corner vanity is not easy, if you succeed in making it blend in with the room decor, it will most probably be very well made. And because of the narrowness of these furnishings, people wont want to gather around it. Besides enhancing the appeal of your bathroom and giving the illusion of wideness, your corner bathroom vanity will actually prevent crowding in your bathroom.
